In response to the epistemological challenge of the modern university, religious colleges and universities have adopted a common strategy--a two-realm paradigm. In his recent book, Faith and Knowledge, Douglas Sloan implied that a two-realm strategy is typically a step on the way to full secularization. Larry Lyon and Michael Beaty argue that the strong support for both integration and the two-spheres approaches to faith and learning at Baylor and Notre Dame suggest that these universities are not yet sliding down the "slippery slope" to secularism. Mr. Lyon is a Professor of Sociology and Mr. Beaty is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Baylor University.
