Emancipative Education and Predatory Culture: Intersections Between Christian Paideia and Critical Pedagogy

Although Christian paideia and critical pedagogy would appear to be ideological opposites and offer conflicting educational agendas, Edward Kuhlman contends that there are points at which they converge as they address the process of commodification which is increasingly characteristic of contemporary, predatory culture. Both positions view the task of education as an exercise in emancipation from forms of cultural oppression. Mr. Kuhlman teaches at Messiah College.
