In this essay Ron Sider offers four things: (1) a summary of the central concerns of Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger (first edition, 1977); (2) brief responses to his critics; (3) an overview of where he has changed his thinking; and (4) a renewed call to costly discipleship and economic justice. All of these and other changes are reflected in the substantially revised Twentieth Anniversary Edition of Rich Christians published in early 1997. Mr. Sider is Professor Theology and Culture at Eastern Seminary (Philadelphia) and President of Evangelicals for Social Action.
