Mark A. Yarhouse and Stanton L. Jones discuss the almost exclusive focus in recent years on biological explanations for the etiology of homosexual orientation. They examine materialist assumptions in interpretations of research on homosexuality and extrapolations from an essentialist conception of sexual orientation. They clarify ways in which Christians can be informed by current scientific findings while preserving fundamental presuppositions concerning human agency and responsibility. Mr. Yarhouse is a doctoral student in Clinical Psychology and a masters student in Theological Studies at Wheaton College. Mr. Jones is Provost of Wheaton College and previously chaired the Department of Psychology there.
