How should we interpret the Johannine declaration that God is love? Thomas Talbott argues that we should interpret it as a declaration about the essence of God; that such an interpretation is also in perfect accord with St. Paul's inclusive understanding of election; and that any form of exclusivism in theology is therefore incompatible with the New Testament teaching.
