Dr. Foster Goes to Gloucester: Improving Christian Higher Education and Scholarship in the Years Ahead

Donald D. Opitz and David S. Guthrie

The heart of this essay is the conviction that improving faculty development programs is essential for the advancement of Christian higher education and scholarship. The first half of the essay follows a fictional faculty member as he stumbles through his first year on campus. The second half makes recommendations regarding new faculty preparation and the coordination of ongoing faculty development efforts. David S. Guthrie is the Director of Geneva College's graduate program in higher education. Donald D. Opitz teaches with him in that program, and in Geneva's graduate program in organizational leadership.
