Michael Boivin’s article, “Finding God in Prozac or Finding Prozac in God,” published in the winter 2003 edition of CSR, presented evidence from neuroscience favoring a biologicallybased view of the person. As research into biochemical substrates underlying behavior gives momentum to an understanding of personhood grounded in physical reality, there are challenging theological issues that emerge. Kathleen H. Storm suggests several such issues, including the need to think afresh about the place of suffering in human experience and the importance of reconsidering human purpose. Ms. Storm is Vice President for Student Life at Whitworth College.
